Miami has to feel great about its trajectory heading into the fourth season of the Mario Cristobal era.
The Hurricanes were one of the best teams in college football for much of last season. At one point, they were ranked No. 4 in the country, and they boasted the Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Cam Ward.
Miami should be one of the top contenders for the College Football Playoff this season with former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck running the show. Cristobal and his staff are also doing some great work on the recruiting trail, and that continued on Monday.
Speaking of Georgia, the Hurricanes were able to flip four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford from Mission Viejo, California.

“Miami has been on my mind pretty heavily for a while,” Spafford told Chad Simmons On3 regarding his decision. “I have been down there a few times and when I was there for three days in the spring, they made a big impression on me. It is one of my few visits where it was nothing but smiles. It was all positivity down there. That feeling stayed with me.”
Spafford was supposed to take an official visit to Miami this past weekend, but the flu kept him sidelined. He is planning on visiting during the season, though, specifically when the Hurricanes take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Whether he's on campus or not, though, the four-star spoke highly about Cristobal, offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and wideouts coach Kevin Beard.
One would imagine a nice NIL package from a Miami program that isn't afraid to spend would play a role in helping the Hurricanes steal Spafford from UGA. In general, though, the young wideout seems to believe in what Cristobal and company are building in Coral Gables.
"Miami is going to be a contending team for sure in the coming years," he said. "Back in the day, they were killing it. Miami was dominant, and they are starting to have that again. Miami had a great showing last year, and it is going to get better. I am very excited about my future at Miami.”
According to the 247Sports Composite, Spafford is the No. 9 wide receiver in the 2026 class.
