Miami confident it can win Super Bowl LXI bid in 2027

The NFL is expected to award Super Bowl LX to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., at this week's owners meetings, meaning that the push will be on for Super Bowl LXI in 2027.

While the Los Angeles Rams are expected to make a huge push to host the game at SoFi Stadium, the Palm Beach Post reported on Friday that Miami is optimistic it can hold off Los Angeles and win the bid for the 2027 game.

This season's game will take place in Las Vegas, while next season's game will be held in New Orleans.

From the Palm Beach Post.

There’s optimism in Miami that despite a late challenge by Los Angeles, South Florida will land the Super Bowl in 2027, a league source told The Post on Friday. Rodney Barreto, longtime chairman of South Florida’s Super Bowl Bid Committees, would not estimate the chances of Hard Rock Stadium hosting the game for the first time since 2020.

“We obviously want to get a game back to Miami,” Barreto said. “We believe we had a very successful last Super Bowl and the world shut down after that Super Bowl. We had it Tampa the next year and it wasn’t the same.”

Miami, once a regular in the rotation for hosting the NFL's biggest game, has only hosted it one time since the 2010 game. That would be the Feb. 2, 2020 game (Super Bowl LIV) when the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.

If Miami is unable to win that bid for 2027, that would mean it would have hosted the game just one time in at least a 17-year stretch. That would be unheard of for South Florida given how often it has hosted the game.

No city has hosted more Super Bowls than Miami, hosting 11 of them.

Five of those games were held at the old Orange Bowl stadium, while the other six have been held at Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Hard Rock Stadium.

The number of new domed stadiums around the league has definitely put more cities into the rotation in recent years, but it still seems surprising that Miami has not been called on more, especially given all of the upgrades and changes to Hard Rock Stadium in recent years.
