It took a one-yard TD pass with 12 seconds left to seal the deal, but the New England Patriots finally tallied their second win of the 2023 NFL season. But exactly how much pressure does that take off of Bill Belichick? Or more specifically, his employment status?
The hoodie-sporting head coach has been in the hot seat since the season started, and the Pats' ongoing woes — compounded by Mac Jones' de-evolution — have only made matters worse. When YardBarker checked after Week 5 on which coaches had the shortest odds of being the first fired at Bookies.com, Belichick was close to the top of the list at 4-1 odds.
Did that Week 7 win against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills help his chances of getting out of the hot seat?
A big win in the AFC East.

Believe it or not, that win against Buffalo really did Belichick some good, because his odds at Bookies.com of being the first NFL coach fired have lengthened to 15-2 (or +750 on the money line.)
Bookies.com isn't giving New England a whole lot of hope for the rest of the season, however. The Patriots' odds of making the playoffs weren't too shabby at the start of the season. Boy, has that 2-5 start changed things.

And as far as coaches with "better" odds than Belichick of getting canned first?
Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley has the shortest odds of being the first NFL coach fired this season at 5-2 odds. Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera has shorter odds now, listed at 4-1. Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus is listed at 5-1.
