Watch: LeBron James shoots down Clippers

At age 39, LeBron James is having the best three-point shooting year of his career. Especially in the fourth quarter Wednesday night.

James made five of his seven-three pointers in the final quarter as his Los Angeles Lakers shocked their cross-arena rivals with a 116-112 comeback win over the L.A. Clippers.

The Lakers were down 96-77 going into the fourth quarter. James began the quarter on the court, looking like he might call it a night if the Lakers couldn’t quickly close the deficit.

James hit three triples in the first 3:13 of the quarter, then assisted on a D’Angelo Russell bucket that cut the Clippers’ lead to eight. A LeBron bank shot and another three got the Lakers within five.

James finished with 34 points, eight assists and six rebounds, spoiling a Clippers “home” game played in the final year of  teams’ shared arena. He played the entire fourth quarter and outscored the Clippers by himself, 19-16.

He also shut down Kawhi Leonard on the Clippers’ final possession, and found Cam Reddish for a dunk that put an emphatic denouement on the victory, one of James’ four assists. James scored or assisted on 30 of the Lakers’ points in the last quarter.

The win moved the Lakers to 3-1 on the season against the Clippers, who had won 11 straight against the Lake Show going into this season. It’s the first time the Lakers have won the season series since 2011-12, which was Chris Paul’s first season in L.A. He’s since been traded five times.

Wednesday, James turned back the clock and proved that when he’s shooting like this from deep, the Lakers are very tough to beat.
