QB Kyler Murray has great reaction to Cardinals drafting offensive weapon

On Thursday night, the Arizona Cardinals selected Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. Quarterback Kyler Murray approved.

Some thought the Cardinals would trade the fourth overall pick to a QB-needy team (e.g., the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders or Minnesota Vikings) and stock up on picks. Arizona resisted the temptation, however, and gave Murray something he desperately needed: a potential No. 1 WR.

In 2023, Arizona finished 26th in the league in receiving yards (201.8). WR Marquise Brown — who led the team in TD catches in 2023 (four in 14 games) — signed a one-year, $7M deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency.

Harrison is an upgrade for the weak receiving corps. In three seasons at Ohio State, the two-time first-team All-American registered 155 receptions for 2,613 yards and 31 TD catches. ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. rated the 21-year-old as his best WR in a class deep at the position.

"I have an elite grade on Harrison, whose name should be familiar. His dad is that Marvin Harrison, whom I scouted coming out of Syracuse in 1996 and is now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame," wrote Kiper. "The younger Harrison is on track to get my highest pre-draft grade for a wideout since Calvin Johnson (2007) and Larry Fitzgerald (2004)."

Murray thrived in 2020 and 2021 when he had WR DeAndre Hopkins, making two Pro Bowls and posting an excellent 62.5 QBR. Harrison could become a similar player, helping the 26-year-old QB rebound after logging a career-low 47.2 QBR in eight games last season.
