Watch: Tyrese Maxey saves Sixers' season with two huge shots

Trailing by six points with under 30 seconds left, the 76ers needed a miracle to stave off elimination. Tyrese Maxey delivered.

Maxey drew a foul on Mitchell Robinson and drilled a leaning three-pointer to cut the lead to three points. Crucially, he made his free throw to complete the four-point play, something Josh Hart didn’t do on the other end.

Hart split his free throws, keeping it a one-possession game and opening the door for another tough, game-tying triple from Maxey, which sent the game to overtime.

In the extra period, the 76ers outlasted the Knicks for a 112-106 win, keeping them alive down 3-2 in their first-round series.

Maxey finished with 46 points, nine assists and only three turnovers in his 51 minutes. He kept his hot shooting going in the extra period, nailing a three-pointer that also gave Joel Embiid a triple-double.

Nursing a sore knee, Embiid still played 47 minutes for the 76ers. He scored 19 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had 10 assists with four blocks. The reigning MVP also avoided an unwanted quadruple-double, finishing with nine turnovers.

Jalen Brunson finished with 40 points for the Knicks, and played hero ball with various degrees of success in OT. Brunson scored all nine of the Knicks' OT points, took eight of the Knicks' first nine shots of OT, and made three of them. He had two three-pointers, committed two turnovers and got blocked twice.

Maxey now joins the pantheon of great Madison Square Garden playoff villains. His seven points in 25 seconds doesn't quite match Reggie Miller's legendary eight points in nine seconds from 1995, but Knicks fans Tuesday night may be just as devastated. Especially since Reggie and the Pacers won that series, too.
