Mike Trout's career hits another major hurdle with latest injury

Mike Trout's career with the Los Angeles Angels has been equal parts brilliance and frustration. He received more of the latter on Tuesday when it was revealed that he will need meniscus surgery and he sidelined for an unknown period of time.

It is not thought to be season ending at this point, but any major surgery is going to be an issue for Trout at this stage of his career. Especially as injuries continue to mount for him.

He has not played in 130 games since the 2019 season and in recent years has missed games due to calf and wrist injuries.

A knee injury at age 32 is going to be especially problematic on top of that.

The injuries just add to the "what if" nature of Trout's entire career with the Angels. Individually he has been one of the greatest players of his generation when healthy, bringing a nearly unmatched combination of power and speed to the field.

He is one of the few players that has true "five tool" ability and for the better part of the 2010s was a bonafide superstar in the league.

But the Angels have never come close to building a contending team around him which has limited him to just one postseason appearance in his career. It makes you wonder how his career would be measured among the all time greats if he played in a better situation.

But he chose to re-sign with the team and has never once asked out, choosing instead to try and turn things around with the Angels.

It has simply never happened.

The Angels robbed him of team success. Now the injuries are sidetracking even the individual success.

The Angels are just 11-18 this season despite Trout's league-leading 10 home runs.
