Watch: Rockies win consecutive games for the first time this season

It took just over seven weeks, but the Colorado Rockies (10-28) have finally won two games in a row.

On Friday, Colorado defeated the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers (22-18) 4-2 in the opener of a three-game set. The win marked Colorado's second consecutive win, the first time it accomplished this feat this season.

As the Associated Press' Craig Meyer pointed out, the Rockies were the only team without back-to-back victories in 2024, and their 37-game streak without consecutive wins was the longest drought in franchise history.

After a seventh-inning error made by Rangers center fielder Leody Taveras allowed them to tie the game at two runs apiece, the Rockies used the momentum to break through in the eighth.

A one-out single and stolen base from Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle forced Texas to intentionally walk left fielder Jake Cave. While Rangers right-hander Grant Anderson was able to strike out the next batter, infielder Elehuris Montero, he didn't have the same luck against four-time All-Star Charlie Blackmon, who hit a go-ahead two-run double.

Left-hander Jalen Beeks would go on to retire the side in order during the top of the ninth inning, earning his second save of the season.

In all likelihood, the Rockies won't be able to dig themselves out of the 9.5-game hole for the National League's final wild-card spot.

However, their current 3-7 stretch over the last 10 games has at least been encouraging enough to suggest that they're turning a corner. Last week's 3-2 win over Pittsburgh was the first time this season that Colorado didn't trail at any point. That snapped a streak of trailing in 31 straight games to begin the season, a modern-day record.

The Rockies aim to start their first winning streak and pick up the team's first series win of the season against Texas on Saturday.
