Travis Kelce weighs in on Harrison Butker controversy

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce addressed the recent controversy surrounding his teammate Harrison Butker on Friday.

Earlier this month, the Chiefs kicker made some polarizing comments about women while giving the commencement speech at Benedictine College, a Catholic liberal arts school in Atchison, Kan.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes recently expressed his opinion on the matter. Kelce did the same on Friday’s episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason.

“I cherish him as a teammate,” said Kelce, via Yahoo Sports’ Drew Weisholtz. “I think [Patrick Mahomes] said it best where he is every bit of a great person and a great teammate. … When it comes down to his views and what he said at Saint Benedict’s commencement speech, those are his. I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids. And I don’t think that I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views, of how to go about life, that’s just not who I am.”

Butker, a devout Catholic, has never been one to shy away from expressing his views. Butker even displayed a political message on his tie during the Chiefs’ visit to the White House after winning the Super Bowl last year.
