Luka Doncic joins trio of NBA champions in exclusive club

Reggie Miller's call on TNT's live broadcast perfectly described Luka Doncic's game-winning shot over Rudy Gobert on Friday night.

"He had him on skates from the beginning," Miller said of Doncic. "My goodness. 'Dancing With the Stars.' Whatever you want to call it. Rudy Gobert had zero chance in contesting this shot here by Luka."

While it's easy to get caught up in Doncic's late-game heroics, the stepback three only put an exclamation point on an overall dominant game from the Slovenian. Doncic finished with a game-high 32 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds — his eighth career playoff triple-double and fourth in his last five games.

The close proximity between the triple-doubles has put Doncic in elite company.

All three players before him — Nikola Jokic (2023), Magic Johnson (1982) and Wilt Chamberlain (1967) — achieved that feat en route to a championship.

Chamberlain had seven triple-doubles while guiding the Sixers to the 1967 NBA championship. In the divisional finals against the Celtics, he averaged an incredible 21.6 points, 32.0 rebounds and 10 assists.

Jokic had 10 triple-doubles in the Nuggets' title run last year, and Johnson had six triple-doubles during the Lakers' 1982 championship run.

Doncic, with five triple-doubles thus far, is six wins away from following that trio into immortality.
