Sky rookie Angel Reese shares a surprising reaction to hard foul

After being on the receiving end of a hard foul, which led to the ejection of Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas on Saturday, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese shared a surprising and defiant reaction.

"They don't give a damn if I'm a rookie, I mean, I want them to come at me every day," Reese said via Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune. "They're not supposed to be nice to me. I hope y'all know that."

While battling for position under the basket near the end of the third quarter, Thomas hit Reese up high before awkwardly driving her into the hardwood. Following a review, officials assessed Thomas with two flagrant fouls before ejecting her from the game.

But afterward, Reese showed her resiliency. As one of several hyped first-year players in the WNBA, she not only expects to be targeted, she welcomes it.

"Thank you AT for sending a message to me because I got back up and kept going and kept pushing," Reese said.

She even crushed any thoughts of beef between her and Thomas, both former Maryland Terpins.

"Me and AT have been cool since we were in Maryland," Reese said. "So I know it's not no hard feelings, and I appreciate her for going at me every day or today."

Ultimately, the Sky lost to the Sun, 86-82, dropping to 2-2 on the season. However, Reese put on a decent showing in her home debut, finishing with 13 points (4-of-9), five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

The ex-LSU standout continues to impress, even though only four games. Entering play on Saturday, Reese was the only rookie to record 10 or more points in her first three games. Meanwhile, she was the first Sky player to start their career by posting three straight double-digit scoring games, per Alexa Philippou of ESPN.

Indiana Fever star and No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark may be getting the most attention. Still, plenty of rookie standouts from the 2024 draft class are making waves, and you can count the talented and strong-willed Reese among them.
