PGA Tour made thoughtful offer to family of Grayson Murray

The PGA Tour made a thoughtful and respectful offer to the family of golfer Grayson Murray.

Murray died on Saturday at the age of 30. He had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, ahead of the second round, citing an illness. Murray shot a 68 during Thursday’s first round.

The PGA Tour said in a statement about Murray’s death that they offered to stop play for the tournament. Murray’s family appreciated the offer but declined, believing that Murray would have wanted the event to continue.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Murray had won seven times as a pro, including twice on the PGA Tour. He had won the Sony Open in Hawaii earlier this season, which helped him reach his highest-ever World Golf ranking of 46.

Murray’s caddie Jay Green shared a very positive message about his late employer.

“Grayson was the absolute best. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend. He truly would do anything for anyone. He has the best family, and my heart goes out to them. We will all miss him deeply,” Green wrote to Golf Channel’s Brentley Romine.
