Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, who missed the final two games of the Eastern Conference finals due to a hamstring injury, is a part of Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The impressive young playmaker reassured that he would be fit and ready for his first taste of Olympic basketball.
"I have no concern," Haliburton told reporters. "Basically, I have six weeks until I have to report to camp. I'll be in Indy for the majority of my treatment and rehab. Six weeks is a pretty long time. I didn't have that ever during the year with the previous injury, so there's no concern. The organization will be sending medical staff with me the whole time. I don't really have concern."
Team USA are the heavy favorites to win gold in Paris. A veteran-laden team led by LeBron James and Steph Curry will be looking to re-establish the USA's dominance in basketball following their fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Haliburton will likely play a big role.
However, the Pacers will monitor his recovery closely, as they do not want to risk their star's long-term health. If the medical staff believes his injury isn't responding as they hoped, Team USA head coach Steve Kerr may be forced to recruit a replacement ballhandler.
Team USA will play multiple tune-up games across three countries. First, they will face Canada in Las Vegas. Then, they will head to Abu Dhabi to play Australia and Serbia before flying to London, England, where they will go toe-to-toe with South Sudan and Germany.
Indiana and Haliburton will have plenty of time to assess his recovery and how his hamstring responds to in-game reps. Nevertheless, with six weeks of rest and rehabilitation, Haliburton hopes to travel with the team and compete for an Olympic gold medal.
