Philadelphia Phillies infielder Edmundo Sosa is excelling in a fill-in role at shortstop while Trea Turner is out. Turner suffered a left hamstring strain on May 3, and Sosa has thrived in his absence.
On the season, Sosa is slashing .304/.373/.576 with four triples, four home runs and a .949 OPS, showcasing his ability to bring power and consistency to the lineup.
Despite not being in the lineup for the "Sunday Night Baseball" matchup with the St. Lous Cardinals, there isn't much concern about the 28-year-old's condition.
"He's fine," Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. "This [Sosa not playing tonight] is precautionary. He's had hamstring issues in the past, and I just want to make sure that we calm ut down and nothing happens. We don't need any more hamstrings hurt around here."
Sosa's energy on the field is evident. It's complemented by his choice of walk-up music, Chief Keef's "Love Sosa," a gritty, hard-hitting anthem that showcases pulsating beats and mirrors Sosa's dynamic presence.
Since being acquired from the Cardinals in exchange for reliever JoJo Romero three days before the trade deadline in 2022, Sosa has shined in a part-time role.
He smashed lefties, boosted the team defense and brought a spark with his signature celebration emphasizing the Phillies' wordmark on the chest of the uniform, contributing in small but important ways to the club's National League championship run.

With Rhys Hoskins missing all last season with a torn ACL and Bryce Harper getting a late start due to Tommy John surgery, Sosa got the bulk of playing time at third base early in 2023, with Alec Bohm sliding over to first base.
Though Sosa appeared slightly overexposed in that starting role due to his free-swinging nature, hitting .251/.293/.427 in 300 plate appearances, he remained a crucial energy player for the Phillies.
"Whenever I go out on the file, I'm going to give my 100% and I demonstrate that to my body and my mind every time," Sosa said, reflecting his unwavering commitment to the game.
Sosa's ability to be a spark plug, potentially steal a base and play solid defense aligns perfectly with what's been asked of him since his trade to the Phillies. His contributions at the plate, particularly in the slugging department, have been a bonus.
As the Phillies enter play on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers with the best record in the National League at 41-19, including a dominant 24-9 at home, it's clear that players like Sosa feed off the fan energy and reciprocate it, further fueling the team's success.
With the third-best odds (+700) to reach the World Series, according to DraftKings, the Phillies' high-energy culture, embodied by players like Sosa, is driving their remarkable season.
