Following Jordan Love’s breakout 2023 season, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is all-in on locking his franchise quarterback up to a long-term contract.
And he feels it’s a matter of when, not if the deal gets done.
“We're in those conversations right now,” Gutekunst recently told 97.3 The Game. “Both parties want the same thing. And we'd like to get this done before training camp for sure. ... That stability at that position really allows you to have some security with the way we build our team. So we're looking forward to getting that done. But it never goes fast.”
After sitting behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons, Love got his chance as Green Bay’s full-time starter last season, passing for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while guiding the Packers to a 9-8 record and an appearance in the NFC divisional round.

Instead of picking up his fifth-year option last year, the Packers elected to sign Love to a one-year, $13.5M contract for 2024. The 25-year-old QB was asked by reporters last month if he’d be comfortable playing under his current contract, to which he replied, “I don’t know, well see.”
Love currently has a projected market value of $47.9M, which would make him the sixth-highest paid QB in the NFL right behind Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts ($51M per year) and ahead of Arizona’s Kyler Murray ($46.1M per year), per Spotrac.
The Packers currently have a little over $30M in cap space after saving $14.23M with D’Vondre Campbell’s post-June 1 release. The team would have to do a little fenagling with its budget (likely with a restructure or salary conversion) to extend Love and sign every member of its 2024 draft class.
