Panthers WR Adam Thielen voices his frustration with team’s facilities

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper didn’t get particularly high marks on the 2024 NFLPA report card.

One of the chief gripes from his players is Tepper’s unwillingness to invest in the team’s facilities, which rank 28th in the NFL, according to the survey. Which is why many players feel the planned $800M renovation to Bank of America Stadium is long overdue, including receiver Adam Thielen.

“I think they're behind a little bit as far as facilities,” Thielen told the Charlotte Observer. “We probably have the worst facilities in the NFL right now, and I don't think there is anybody who would argue that. … So it's nice to hear that the commitment to us as players and the coaching staff, ‘Hey, you guys are putting the work in, and we're going to commit and provide you guys with better facilities and really give you the resources to go out there and win.’ So it's exciting.”

Among the renovations, Bank of America Stadium, which also houses MLS franchise Charlotte FC, would get new video and sound systems, expanded social gathering areas, new seating in the lower bowl, better handicap access and an updated infrastructure.

The stadium upgrades, which will run the city $650M and Tepper $150M, were revealed not long after the Panthers announced plans to build a new outdoor practice facility complete with an indoor field house, a parking structure and a 5,000-seat viewing area. Currently, the Panthers practice at an outdoor facility close to their stadium.

As part of the renovation agreement, the Panthers would also stay in Charlotte for a 20-year term and Tepper would agree to pay an additional $421M for any capital investment overage charges, per NFL.com.
