Dodgers standout becomes first pitcher to 100 strikeouts in 2024

In his first start against the organization that originally drafted him , Tyler Glasnow became the first pitcher in MLB this season to strike out 100 batters.

The next-closest pitcher is Jack Flaherty of the Detroit Tigers with 94 Ks.

Despite taking the loss on Tuesday afternoon, Glasnow shoved against the Pittsburgh Pirates, pitching six innings, striking out nine and only giving up three hits. He also lowered his ERA from 3.00 to 2.93.

His only blemish came in the third inning when Jack Suwinski hit a solo shot to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead. Pittsburgh would go on to win by that score.

Glasnow has been the Dodgers' best pitcher since being traded over and signing an extension this offseason. His WHIP and batting average against him are the third-best among qualified pitchers in MLB this season.

Glasnow's career high in strikeouts is 162, which he set last year while a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. His career high in innings is 120, and he has already thrown 80 this season.

Despite Glasnow's dominance on the mound this season, he is winless in his last five starts thanks to poor performance by the Dodgers offense. The loss on Tuesday was the fifth straight game in which the Dodgers did not score a single run while Glasnow was on the mound.

The Santa Clarita native is a much more refined pitcher now than during his time in Pittsburgh. He went 3-11 with a 5.79 ERA in 56 games for the Pirates before being traded over to the Rays.

Glasnow even joked with reporters after the game about his development.

"Then I just sucked every time and now I feel like I’m better than I was then," Glasnow said. "Definitely a stark difference for sure."

Glasnow is currently lined up to pitch against the New York Yankees this weekend.
