On March 14, the Seattle Seahawks acquired quarterback Sam Howell in a trade with the Washington Commanders, presumably with the expectation that he'd serve as Geno Smith's backup in the fall.
Howell may now have some competition for the role, as it was reported on Thursday that Seattle is signing signal-caller P.J. Walker.
#Seahawks GM John Schneider joins The Insiders tonight, but first he has other business: Seattle is signing FA QB PJ Walker, sources tell The Insiders. Some depth prior to minicamp.

Howell was selected by the Commanders in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and sat on the bench behind Carson Wentz and Taylor Heinicke for nearly his entire rookie campaign. He debuted in Week 18 that season with his first start and won the starting job in the nation's capital last year over Jacoby Brissett.
Howell struggled mightily, however, finishing the 2023 season with a 63.4 completion percentage, 3,946 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions for a 78.9 passer rating.
Washington went just 4-13 and finished with the 25th-ranked offense under Howell and first-year offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Walker has played just 21 games (making nine starts) across his four-year NFL career, posting a 5-4 record with a 54.6 completion percentage, 2,135 passing yards, six touchdowns and 16 interceptions (60.0 passer rating). He appeared in six games with the Cleveland Browns last season, making two starts and finishing 54-for-111 for 674 passing yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.
