Top AEW star provides injury update

Adam Copeland, also known as "Edge," provided an injury update on his broken leg during a recent "Busted Open Radio" podcast appearance. He injured himself when jumping off a cage during his match with Malakai Black at "Double or Nothing."

“I had the surgery on Monday, and it was a success,” Copeland said. “It got a little complicated just because of where the break is. It’s kind of right above the ankle joint, which is called a Pilon fracture, apparently. So the cartilage in between your ankle and your tibia and fibula got squished, and the break, and I guess there were shards of it too... Dark reminder of how lousy lower body injuries are, though."

Copeland joined AEW in 2023. The WWE Hall of Famer has been a hit since his arrival and has reportedly taken to his role as a locker room leader. Since entering AEW, Copeland has participated in some brutal matches. His rivalry with Christian Cage has also been a fun story for fans. 

However, Copeland will likely be off of AEW TV for the foreseeable future. His injury will take time to heal, and given his age, Tony Khan and the creative team will likely be cautious when working him back into the schedule. 

Fortunately for AEW, MJF's return from injury will help fill some of the airtime Copeland's loss had opened up. The former world champion is arguably the face of the company and will take every opportunity to cut a long-running promo and draw attention to his multitude of funds. 

That's the beauty of AEW's roster. There's always another high-level talent waiting in the wings. Khan will undoubtedly be waiting for the day when the company's best stars are simultaneously healthy and available. He is still waiting on Copeland, Kenny Omega, Adam Cole and Eddie Kingston, who all project to be long-term absentees. 

Copeland's update is encouraging for fans, but we'll unlikely see him back in the ring until later this year or early 2025. His absence will be felt by both the fans and those in the locker room.
