The Mavericks should fear a Celtics team playing on the road

The Boston Celtics have only lost two games during the postseason. Both of those losses came on their home floor. The first was a Game 2 loss to the Miami Heat in the opening round. The second was a Game 2 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Since then, the Celtics have overcome every challenge and remained unbeaten on the road throughout the playoffs.

Now, the Celtics head to Dallas for the next two games in their NBA Finals series against the Mavericks. They already hold a 2-0 lead in the series. During his postgame news conference on Sunday, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd accepted that Boston is riding a hot streak.

"Yeah, they haven't lost a game since May something, right? Yeah, they're hot," Kidd said. "And not just on the road, but at home. We've got to protect home, and that's it. We've got to find a way, continue, again, to build on our defense. Our defense put us in a position to win tonight. Unfortunately, our offense didn't help us."

Boston was 27-14 on the road during the regular season. It thrives on beating teams on their home floor. It will likely see Dallas as another roadblock on its path to victory.

Kidd's team must be prepared for a potential onslaught, especially if the Celtics smell blood in the water and believe they can end the series swiftly.

Heading back to Dallas will undoubtedly leave the Mavericks confident. However, judging by Boston's dominance when playing on the road, Kidd's team should be cautious — even fearful.

The Mavericks must win both of their home games. If they allow the Celtics to steal a win, the series will likely end back in Boston during Game 5.

Kidd's team has dug itself a hole. It can't rely on home-court advantage to dig itself out of it. Not this time. Not against this team. Not at this stage. Dallas must play with its backs against the wall if it wants a chance to even up the series.
