Pittsburgh Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes had another gem on Tuesday night, pitching into the seventh inning of their 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
He didn't allow a run or walk a batter, and he pitched his way out of two jams and struck out eight more batters to bring his total to 46 strikeouts on the season in just 33.1 innings. All of that lowered his ERA to 2.43 for the season as he continues to further establish himself as one of the best and most dominant starting pitchers in baseball.
Like his previous five starts entering play on Tuesday, he also delivered some absolutely nasty pitches to Cardinals hitters.
Here are four of the nastiest.
There was this breaking ball in the first inning that just had comical movement and produced an absolutely terrible swing from Alec Burleson.

Later, he got Matt Carpenter with a 95 mph splinker that seemed to completely befuddle the veteran hitter and draw an "are you serious?" look back at the mound.

Skenes is not just about power. He also got veteran Paul Goldschmidt with an 84 mph slider that he was not even close to hitting.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton raised some eyebrows by sending Skenes out to start the seventh inning despite the fact he was already at 94 pitches for the game. Skenes ended up getting the first out of the inning and dialed up a 99 mph fast ball on his 99th pitch of the game, which is just an absurd thing for a pitcher to be able to do.

Between Skenes, Jared Jones and Mitch Keller, the Pirates have what is rapidly becoming one of the best and most dominant starting rotations in baseball. It is good enough to make the playoffs and go far into the postseason right now. They just need to get some additional offensive and bullpen help to make sure they can get there.
