Through an 81-game home schedule, most teams go through various choices regarding who will throw out the game's "first pitch."
However, the irony was thick on Wednesday when the New York Mets put Grimace on the mound ahead of their matchup at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins.

Similar to the 2024 Mets, the fuzzy hunk of purple looks unformidable at best. Likewise, the name of the longtime McDonald's mascot is what most of the fan base has done throughout the season.
In Grimace's defense, his pitch avoided the backstop, something 50 Cent can't say.

The Mets entered 2024 with high expectations. However, nearly two weeks into June, they're all but out of the National League East division race.
With the All-Star break still weeks away, many believe the Mets have already waved the white flag on the season. Furthermore, it seems the franchise is gearing up to trade slugger Pete Alonso, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the season.
At 28-37, the Mets are 17.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies for the division lead, and only the Colorado Rockies (23-44) and Marlins (23-43) have worse records in the NL.
Meanwhile, after going 9-19 in May, New York isn't off to much of a better start to July, splitting the first eight games of the month (4-4).
