Watch: Three second-period goals give Panthers commanding lead in Game 3

The Florida Panthers snatched the life out of the Rogers Place crowd in the second period of Game 3, scoring three times to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the third period.

Tied 1-1 near the midway point of the second, the Panthers scored three times in the last 10:48 of the period.

First, Vladimir Tarasenko scored the go-ahead goal 9:12 into the period, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

Then, at 13:57, Sam Bennett beat Edmonton netminder Stuart Skinner, increasing the Panthers' lead to two, 3-1.

Finally, 1:34 later, Aleksander Barkov scored on a breakaway, beating Skinner top-shelf to put Florida ahead 4-1 with 4:29 left in the second.

The Panthers' scoring party quickly took away any momentum the Oilers had. Trailing Florida 1-0 after 20 minutes, Edmonton tied the game up on a Warren Foegele goal 1:49 into the second period, and it appeared that they were beginning to turn the corner.

However, the moment was short-lived as the Panthers quickly regained control, stunning the Oilers, who are now only a period away from a 3-0 deficit in the best-of-seven series.

Throughout the Final, it seems that each time the Oilers make a mistake, it ends up in the back of the net. The same can be true of their second-period meltdown, as all three goals came off either defensive breakdowns or horrific turnovers in their own zone.

So far, everything is going according to plan for the Panthers. Florida, backed by incredible depth, strong forechecking and a world-class netminder in Sergei Bobrovsky, has proved challenging for the Oilers to solve. The trend is continuing more than halfway through Game 3.
