One of the worst-kept secrets in recent NBA Draft memory finally became official on Thursday when the Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James with the 55th overall pick.
The Lakers' official X account posted a video on Friday morning, taking fans inside the team's draft room and showing them the moment that general manager Rob Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick informed James of the news.

There'd been reports and speculation for months that other teams could have serious interest in picking the USC product, but the younger James limited his workouts as he and agent Rich Paul angled for a favorable landing spot.
They got just that in Los Angeles as LeBron James had been saying for roughly two years that his goal was to one day share the floor with his oldest son. Now, that dream is about to become a reality.
While some analysts and fans may cry nepotism when discussing the 19-year-old, seldom-used Trojans guard's case for making the NBA, Bronny's comeback from last year's cardiac arrest is still admirable.
He arrived at USC ranked 20th in the 2023 ESPN 100 rankings and as the sixth-rated point guard. Then he suffered his medical scare during a July practice and was rushed to the ICU of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Bronny made his way back onto the court in late 2023 and was medically cleared in November.
He averaged only 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 19.4 minutes per game across 25 contests (six starts) in his only college season while recording a .366/.267/.676 shooting line.
