Caitlin Clark has electric first quarter in return from injury
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark returned from her quad injury on Saturday against the New York Liberty, and let's just say she did not look the slightest bit rusty.
Clark scored 14 points in the first quarter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind., and the majority of them came with under two minutes remaining. Clark pulled up and drained a three-pointer from 33 feet out with 1:26 remaining in the first quarter, and that was just the start of a mini-explosion.
Clark made three three-pointers in a span of about 44 seconds.

Indiana trailed 21-15 before Clark hit her three-pointer with 1:26 remaining in the quarter. The game was tied less than a minute later.
Clark was sidelined for five games with the quad injury. The Fever went 2-3 in those games. Clark entered Saturday leading Indiana with 19 points and 9.3 assists per game.
The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Clark is known for being able to hit shots from just about anywhere on the court. She wasted very little time doing just that in her return to action on Saturday.

WNBA legend Lisa Leslie had three words for Angel Reese
Now in her second WNBA season, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is averaging a league‑leading 12.5 rebounds along with 13.8 points, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She recently returned from injury and immediately picked up where she left off, posting her 16th double‑double of the season (11 points, 11 rebounds) on Tuesday night even as her Chicago Sky fell, 91-68, to the Minnesota Lynx. Then, on Wednesday, Reese showcased her brand power on Instagram, posting a pregame photo dressed head‑to‑toe in Gucci with the caption, "Don’t worry about me… life is GUCCI @gucci #guccipartner." The image quickly lit up her feed and drew an immediate response from one of the game’s all‑time greats, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who commented, “Yessss it is❤️." Despite flashes of elite play, the Sky have struggled mightily, standing at just 7-17 and sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference. Their 76.7 points per game rank 12th in the WNBA, and opponents are torching them for 86.8 a night (12th in the league). With head coach Tyler Marsh searching for consistency, every bright spot has been a welcome reprieve for a franchise that won the title as recently as 2021. Front and center among Chicago’s bright spots is Reese. The 2025 Baseball Hall of Fame class had its day in Cooperstown on Sunday. This year's class included Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner, who were elected by the eligible voters from the Baseball Writer's Association of America, and Dave Parker and Dick Allen, who were elected by the Classic Baseball Era Committee. Here are some of the top highlights from Sunday's induction speeches. Dave Parker's son reads poem written by Hall of Fame father Parker's induction into the Hall of Fame was long overdue, and he sadly did not have the opportunity to enjoy the moment of seeing his name in the Hall of Fame as he died June 28. That left his speech in the hands of his son, Dave Parker II, who read a poem written by his dad. Parker spent the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates where he was an MVP winner, two-time batting champion and World Series champion with the 1979 "We Are Family" team. Dick Allen's wife remembers his kindness Allen was the other veterans committee inductee, and his widow, Willa Allen, spent the majority of her speech remember the kindness of Allen off the field as much as his ability on the field. Allen is going into the Hall of Fame as a Phillie but won the 1972 American League MVP with the Chicago White Sox. He led the league in OPS four times and was the 1964 National League Rookie of the Year. A reminder that Billy Wagner wasn't naturally left-handed Being left-handed is a huge advantage (and money-maker) for pitchers, and Wagner was one of the most dominant left-handed relief pitchers to ever step onto a mound in the big leagues. But he wasn't always left-handed. Wagner was a natural-born right-handed person but taught himself how to throw left-handed after fracturing his right arm twice as a kid. It led to quite a career. Wagner made a name for himself with the Houston Astros but also spent years with the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox. CC Sabathia takes playful dig at Ichiro Sabathia accomplished a ton in his 19-year big league career. He won 251 games, won the 2007 American League Cy Young Award, was the 2009 ALCS MVP and a World Series champion. He still has apparently not gotten over the one individual award he did not win — the 2001 American League Rookie of the Year Award, which went to fellow 2025 inductee Ichiro. Sabathia made sure to make a playful dig at that. Sabathia was the only American League rookie outside of Ichiro — who also won the American League MVP that year — to get a first-place vote. He received one. The others all went to Ichiro. Ichiro stole the show Ichiro stole 509 bases in his Hall of Fame career, and on Sunday, he added one more steal to his list of accomplishments by absolutely stealing the show at Cooperstown. He delivered two of the best lines of the day, first by calling out the one lone writer who did not vote for him, keeping him from being just the second unanimous Hall of Fame inductee ever (after Mariano Rivera). His best line of the day, however, might have been when he referenced his brief time as a member of the Miami Marlins toward the end of his career. Ichiro played 14 of his 19 seasons with the Seattle Mariners while also spending time with the Marlins and Yankees.
Tigers Reportedly Trying to Finalize Eugenio Suárez Trade Before Diamondbacks Leave
The Detroit Tigers may not be out of it just yet in the pursuit of the top available player at this week's MLB trade deadline. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suárez is sought after by just about every contender due to the incredible season he's had so far. However, many called into question how much of a fit he is for the Tigers. On paper, Suárez makes the lineup more dangerous, but many have pointed out that his presence might limit what the Tigers do best in terms of creating mismatches and having chess pieces to move around the diamond. A new report on Monday though contradicts all that, though. Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported the Tigers are still very much a suitor for Suárez and want to get a deal done with the Diamondbacks before the slugger leaves town following this early-week series between the two sides. Through 104 games headed into the matchup with Detroit, Suárez is slashing .247/.319/.579 with 36 home runs and a big league-leading 87 RBI, already collecting a bWAR of 3.4. Suárez would instantly come in and add a new dynamic of power to the lineup while stabilizing what has been a revolving door at the hot corner all season long. How serious of an offer they are willing to make in order to make that happen remains to be seen. If Nightengale is correct and the Tigers are trying to finalize a Suárez deal before he leaves the city of Detroit, look for the noise to heat up over the coming days. Adam Schefter says what Commanders fans dreaded about Terry McLaurin talks
Terry McLaurin is back at the facility after his contract holdout. Everyone associated with the Washington Commanders was thrilled to welcome him, but any hope around a new deal being agreed upon evaporated almost as quickly as it arrived. McLaurin is back for the fans. He's back for his teammates. He's back to avoid getting fined $50,000 per day. He's not back to mend fences or get involved too much in negotiations. That's for his representatives and general manager Adam Peters to figure out. McLaurin has a price in mind. So does Washington's front office leader, and Adam Schefter from ESPN claimed that the two sides were nowhere near some middle ground right now. Adam Schefter thinks Terry McLaurin wants more than $33 million per year on Commanders extension Schefter stated during his latest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show that the floor is probably the $33 million per year D.K. Metcalf received from the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, the senior insider also thought McLaurin could be asking for a lot more. It's been vast. So it's up to the two sides to find a way to bridge their differences. But I would say that D.K. Metcalf was in the same draft class as Terry McLaurin. He got about 33 million dollars a year. I wouldn't think Terry wants to take less than that, and I think he wants considerably more than that. Now, what it comes in at, we'll wind up seeing. Washington... They're not there right now. They love and value Terry McLaurin, but they love and value him at a different price. These two sides right now seem apart on a deal. They don't seem close today, and I don't know how they're going to get that resolved and figured out.Adam Schefter This doesn't exactly fill Washington's fan base with much optimism. But, in all honesty, it's been the brutal truth since talks over a new deal began. Peters is reluctant to meet McLaurin's demands. He's almost 30 years old, and production often regresses on third NFL contracts. Although he's shown no signs of slowing down and remains among the most durable wideouts around, things are not matching up from a business sense currently. There is still time to work things out, and they typically do the closer we get to the regular season. McLaurin is on the physically unable to perform list with an ankle complication, so he's not practicing. And the former third-round pick out of Ohio State is unlikely to be on the field in any capacity until some more long-term financial security arrives.
