Kevin Durant addresses height after Team USA photo prompts questions

For years, there's been a lot of discourse surrounding Kevin Durant's actual height, with some claiming that the sharpshooting forward is closer to 7 feet tall and not the 6-foot-9 he's listed as.

That theory resurfaced earlier this week when Durant posed for a photo with his Team USA teammates, looking as tall, if not taller, than Joel Embiid, who is universally recognized as a 7-footer.

In an interview with Kay Adams, Durant tried to put those theories to rest once and for all. When asked why he looked taller in the photoshoot than his Team USA teammates, Durant suggested that Embiid and others were likely not being truthful about their measurements.

"I guess those guys might be shorter than what their numbers say. I'm 6-9, though," Durant said. "So it looks like Bam Adebayo is probably 6-8 instead of 6-10, and AD is probably 6-9. So they probably adding a little more on their heights while I'm keeping mine the same. I'm not lying about my height."

When asked why he and Embiid stood neck-and-neck in the photo, Durant suggested that the Sixers big man was also not being honest about his height.

"Embiid is not 7 feet," Durant said.

The legitimacy of his teammates' heights is far from Durant's biggest concern.

The two-time NBA champion is nursing a calf strain that sidelined him from Team USA's 86-72 exhibition victory over Canada on Wednesday. However, Durant — Team USA's all-time leading scorer — expressed optimism that he will be ready for his country's pursuit of a fourth consecutive gold medal in Paris.

Team USA will play four more exhibition games against Australia, Serbia, South Sudan and Germany ahead of its Paris Olympics opener against Nikola Jokic's Serbia team on July 28.
