Josh Jacobs expands on leaving Raiders to sign with Packers

Earlier this month, running back Josh Jacobs opened up about leaving the Las Vegas Raiders to sign with the Green Bay Packers in free agency.

Jacobs has left little doubt this summer that he's hoping to find more stability with the Packers than what he experienced with the Raiders from 2019 through last season.

"I feel like the Raiders are still a cornerstone franchise," Jacobs recently said, as shared by Rob Demovsky of ESPN. "But when you come in and you have different coaches and different GMs with their own vision, you've kinda got to adapt to their vision. We really didn't have that culture set in stone."

Demovsky mentioned that Jacobs played under four head coaches, three general managers and a handful of quarterbacks during his Vegas tenure. The Raiders currently are holding a summer competition for their QB1 job, while Green Bay starter Jordan Love received a massive contract extension ahead of this past weekend.

Matt LaFleur has served as the Packers' head coach since 2019.

"That's what I would say the biggest difference is: You know what being a Packer is," Jacobs explained. "You feel that throughout the building. You see it on a day-to-day basis."

Jacobs made it known he didn't want to join a franchise "in a rebuilding situation," in part because he's never celebrated a postseason victory during his pro career. As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Packers fifth among the betting favorites at +800 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX after Green Bay nearly defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs this past January.

"For me, it's all on the postseason," Jacobs added during his comments. "Playoffs. I'm at the point now in my career where I feel like I've done so much and gotten so many accolades or whatever, it's all about legacy now. Winning games in the postseason is the only thing I'm really thinking about. Playing more than 17 games, playing in those last games at a high level and hopefully playing in that one and being an impact player. That's my biggest thing right now."

Jacobs suggested the four-year, $48M deal with $12.5M guaranteed he received from Green Bay was worth less overall money "than what other teams" such as the Denver Broncos, Arizona Cardinals and New York Giants were willing to offer him this past March. The 26-year-old nevertheless has millions of reasons to be happy ahead of the preseason but also hopes his decision will result in getting his hands on a Super Bowl ring as soon as next year.
