Red Sox catcher to make history by playing for two teams in one game

When the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays resume their suspended game on Monday, catcher Danny Jansen is going to make the type of history that seems almost impossible to make.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced on Friday that Jansen is going to be behind the plate as the team's catcher in place of Reese McGuire. This is notable because when the game was originally started and suspended, Jansen was batting in the game... as a member of the Blue Jays.

This means that on Monday Jansen will become the first player in Major League history to ever play for two different teams in the same official game.

Jansen was traded from the Blue Jays to the Red Sox just before the MLB trade deadline at the end of July.

The game, which was originally being played in June, was suspended in the top of the second inning and will be completed on Monday.

Jansen has appeared in 13 games with the Red Sox since the trade, hitting .366 with a .794 OPS.

Now he will have the chance to try and get them a win in a game where he started off trying to beat them.
