After getting a great push down the backstretch on the final lap, Harrison Burton won his first career NASCAR Cup Series race and earned the Wood Brothers their 100th Cup Series win as an organization.
The win locks Burton into the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
An emotional Burton celebrated with his dad, NASCAR Hall of Famer Jeff Burton - who works in the television booth for NBC - over the radio after the race.
Burton sat 34th - last of all full-time Cup Series drivers - in points coming into Saturday's race, and with no full-time ride confirmed for 2025, the stretch run of 2024 is all about auditioning for future opportunities.
Burton now adds a critical piece to his resume and has a chance to win a Cup Series championship if he can successfully navigate through the playoffs this fall.
Kyle Busch finished runner-up, with Christopher Bell, Cody Ware and Ty Gibbs rounding out the top five. Bubba Wallace, Parker Retzlaff, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Hemric and Chris Buescher completed the top 10.
Other notable finishers in Saturday's race include Ross Chastain in 12th, Kyle Larson in 21st, William Byron in 27th, Tyler Reddick in 28th and Denny Hamlin in 38th.
The Cup Series regular-season finale will take place next Sunday at Darlington. The Southern 500 will go green shortly after 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 1, with coverage on USA Network, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
