In her hometown of London on Sunday, Mariah May was crowned the new AEW Women’s World Champion.
May dethroned her former mentor Toni Storm at AEW All In to win the title. The ending of their match included a moment where Storm refused to hit May with a shoe. May took advantage of the mercy shown by Storm, delivering a pair of knee strikes and a Storm Zero to get the victory.
The Storm-May story has taken inspiration from classic films like “All About Eve” and “Sunset Boulevard.” After being brought into AEW as Storm’s understudy, May betrayed her last month after winning the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. Winning the tournament earned May this title shot at All In.
This is the first championship the 26-year-old May has held in AEW. She debuted for the promotion in November 2023.
Storm vs. May included a spot where May slapped her own mother at ringside. May’s mom was sitting in the front row and the commentary team said this was only the second time she’s seen her daughter wrestle live. But when she seemingly disapproved of May taking out Luther, May slapped her mom in the face.
Mariah May is on the warpath!
