Report: Multiple teams eyeing trade for Texans WR

The Texans are entering the 2024 season with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, but they only have 53 spots, which has other teams looking to go shopping.

One of Houston's deepest positions is wide receiver and a name that has continued to be a subject to trade rumors is former second-round pick John Metchie III.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, "multiple teams" have already reached out to the Texans to see if Metchie III would be available in a trade due to the plethora of receivers on their roster.

Plethora may be an understatement. Metchie III is a part of a wide receiver room that also includes Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, Noah Brown, Xavier Hutchinson, Ben Skowronek, Steven Sims and Quintez Cephus.

While Houston simply cannot keep every single one of its wide receivers on the 53-man roster, it's still unclear if the team is willing to move on from Metchie III.

The 24-year-old did raise his value over the past four weeks, registering 10 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown this preseason.

That needed to happen following the first two years of his NFL career. He didn't play his rookie year after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia and then he recorded just 16 catches for 158 yards in his return last season.

Still, he could provide some upside at the position for teams who are looking to bolster their wide receiver rooms.

The teams that reportedly reached out have yet to be named, but it's not hard to imagine the Steelers being among them. Pittsburgh has been arguably the most active team this offseason when it comes to shopping for a wide receiver, and it may be willing to offer the Texans a price it can't turn down.

Plus, a fresh start could be all Metchie III needs to get his NFL career back on track.
