2. Bowling Green's 100-yard kickoff return TD

The Falcons were apparently itching to get on the board as soon as humanly possible in their season-opener against Fordham. Junior running back Justin Pegues took the opening kickoff 100 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown in what is the longest scoring play of the season so far. 

The immediate offense sparked Bowling Green to a 41-17 victory over Fordham in its home opener.

3. Minnesota's point-blank "doink"

After a lengthy weather delay pushed the start of North Carolina-Minnesota more than an hour, the action on the field appeared to indicate a late-night barnburner. Scoreless near the end of the first quarter, Minnesota looked like it was driving toward the endzone for the game's first points when the offense stalled out on the eight-yard line.

Gophers kicker Dragan Kesich should have had an easy chip-shot field goal, but instead he smacked the ball into the top of the right upright for the season's first "doink." 

Kesich had an opportunity to redeem himself with four seconds remaining in the game, down two points but he sent the kick wide right and North Carolina won, 19-17.

4. North Dakota State's endzone pick-via-calf deflection

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders had the Buffaloes driving down the field to start the second half when a fluke play halted them in their tracks. Sanders zipped a pass seemingly towards the ground of the endzone when the ball sprung sharply upwards and was intercepted by North Dakota State linebacker Nick Kubitz for a touchback. 

It turned out, the ball bounced off another defender's calf who was lying on the goal line and caused it to rebound into the air for the pick.

5. Tulane's 100-yard pick-six

Things went from bad to worse for Southeastern Louisiana in the second quarter of its season opener against Tulane. Lions quarterback Eli Sawyer launched a ball errantly into double-coverage where Green Wave defender Rayshawn Pleasant plucked it out of the air on the goal line. 

Pleasant then made a mad dash down the sideline and into the opposite endzone for a 100-yard pick-six, the longest of the young season. The Lions would not recover as Tulane walked out as 52-0 winners.
