Mike Tomlin: Justin Fields has 'too much talent to be sitting around watching'

Mike Tomlin named Russell Wilson the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. However, that doesn't mean fans won't see Justin Fields get a chance to showcase his upside against the Atlanta Falcons.

While speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Tomlin discussed the decision, calling it "difficult" and stating that Fields' talents are more than he anticipated. Beyond that, he also mentioned a "Justin Fields package" for the opener in Atlanta.

“My friend Raheem Morris had better be ready for a Justin Fields package, I’ll just say that,” Tomlin said, in reference to Pittsburgh’s Week 1 visit to Atlanta. “I don’t want to disclose any strategic approaches, but it’s probably too much talent to be sitting around watching all day. You know what I mean?”

Even if Tomlin is throwing a curveball at the Falcons with these comments, his rave review of Fields makes the comment about the quarterback a noteworthy one.

It's also worth mentioning that the Steelers almost certainly didn't bring in both Wilson and Fields with the intention of having one ride the bench all season. Although Fields was penciled in as the backup quarterback initially, the likelihood that Tomlin and company got creative with ways to utilize his upside was high.

After seeing Fields in action, Tomlin sounds like he's ready and willing to find multiple ways for the current No. 2 quarterback to make plays and help the Steelers on a weekly basis.
