49ers confirm rookie WR Ricky Pearsall has been released from hospital

On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers announced rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital after he was shot Saturday during an attempted robbery.

"He and his family, along with the entire San Francisco 49ers organization, would like to thank the San Francisco Police Department, emergency medical services, doctors and staff at San Francisco General Hospital," the 49ers said in a statement.

According to The Athletic's Matt Barrows and Mark Puleo, Pearsall didn't require surgery during his hospital stay and remained lucid. Barrows and Puleo added his family was with him in the room on Saturday night.

The San Francisco Police Department told Sean Cunningham of KTXL-TV in Sacramento that Pearsall — who was headed to a signing event — was shot through the chest in a robbery attempt over a Rolex. This led to a physical altercation where both Pearsall and the suspect were shot.

"On Saturday, police said a 17-year-old suspect from Tracy, California — about 60 miles east of San Francisco — was in custody," wrote Barrows and Puleo. "SFPD chief William Scott said the suspect's gun was recovered at the scene."

The district attorney's office says the suspect will be charged in juvenile court (h/t: Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports).

Per Barrows and Puleo, Scott said it doesn't seem that Pearsall was being targeted due to being an NFL player, and police think the suspect was acting alone.

The 49ers took Pearsall with the 31st overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. In five seasons at Arizona State and Florida, he recorded 159 receptions for 2,420 yards and 14 touchdown catches.
