A similar memorial also popped up outside Nationwide Arena in Columbus where Johnny played most recently.
The Gaudreau brothers were killed on Aug. 29 after a crash involving a suspected drunk driver while the brothers were riding bikes, according to police. They were just hours away from participating in their sister's wedding in New Jersey.
Johnny was drafted by Calgary in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft and played 602 regular season games — tallying 210 goals and 399 assists over nine seasons, earning the nickname "Johnny Hockey."
He signed with the Blue Jackets in 2022 and was named an All-Star seven times over the course of his career.
Hockey fans started a GoFundMe for Matthew's pregnant wife which has raised over $518,000.
