NHL icon Joe Thornton has played many roles during his tenure with the San Jose Sharks. Winger, captain, mentor and, according to general manager Mike Grier, " director of vibes."
Now the bearded behemoth will add "roomie" to his resume, as reports surfaced this week that Thornton will host No. 1 overall draft pick Macklin Celebrini this season.

There shouldn't be any first-day-of-school jitters since Celebrini, 18, is already acquainted with the Sharks all-time assists leader. Thornton, 45, was on stage in Las Vegas this offseason to announce Celebrini as San Jose's NHL Draft-opening selection.

The 2024 Hobey Baker winner is expected — although not guaranteed — to make the Sharks opening-night roster out of training camp. That would up the possibility that he will be in the building when his new roomie, Jumbo Joe, has his No. 19 jersey retired by the Sharks on Nov. 23.
