The Philadelphia Eagles were able to beat the Green Bay Packers, 34-29, on Friday night to open their season with a big win over another NFC contender.
Star free-agent acquisition Saquon Barkley was the player of the game with three touchdowns, but a potentially significant injury took the spotlight in the final seconds of the contest.
Here are five takeaways from Friday's game.
Jordan Love injury is the big story
The result of the game is secondary for the Packers on Friday. Their only concern now is the status of starting quarterback Jordan Love.
Love was injured with less than 30 seconds to play in the fourth quarter while trying to escape the Eagles pass rush and keep the game alive. He ended up getting twisted around before lateraling the ball backward to running back Josh Jacobs on a desperation play.
Love remained on the field for several minutes in clear pain before being helped off the field with a noticeable limp. He did not return for the final two plays of the game.

For the Packers to have any chance to compete in the NFC this season, they are going to need Love on the field and playing the way he did in the second half of the 2023 season.
An injury that potentially takes him out for even a few weeks would be a lot to overcome.
This game was sloppy
Maybe it was just the normal Week 1 struggles. Perhaps it was the field, primarily used for soccer, and the poor traction that led to some slippage. Or maybe it was both of those things combined with the fact that everyone had to take 10-plus hour flights earlier in the week to kick off a game at 9:15 p.m. local time in Brazil.
Whatever the case may be, this game was sloppy. Extremely sloppy. It started on the first drive of the game when a potential Packers touchdown was negated by offsetting 12-men on the field penalties, and continued throughout the night with poor footing, penalties and turnovers from both teams.
It was an entertaining game for sure. But it was not the highest-quality game these two contenders are going to play this season.
Saquon Barkley and the Eagles are a perfect match
The Eagles were hoping that free-agent running back Saquon Barkley could make a big impact on their offense this season, and he wasted zero time in proving that he can fo just that.
Barkley had a monster debut game. He finished with 132 all-purpose yards, including 109 on the ground, and three touchdowns.
Things got off to a shaky start when he lost his footing in the backfield on his first carry and lost five yards, but he was a constant home-run threat every time he touched the football after that.

Another game without many kickoff returns
It is only a two-game sample size at this point, but Friday was a second straight early dud for the new dynamic kickoff return rules. After seeing just two kickoff returns in Thursday's season opener in Kansas City, there were only three kickoff returns on Friday as both teams instead opted to just boom the ball into the end zone.
Through two games, we have seen just five returns on 20 kickoffs.
This will be a fascinating trend to watch unfold this season.
Jalen Hurts has to limit the turnovers and mistakes
Hurts made some big plays down the stretch. He ended up throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another 33 yards. But he also turned the football over three times, including a brutal interception in the end zone late in the fourth quarter that could have swung the game. He also fumbled a snap on 3rd-and-goal in the final minute, though Barkley jumped on it..
Turnovers plagued Hurts in the second half of the 2023 season and it was a big part of why the Eagles struggled. They were fortunate to overcome those mistakes on Friday.
There were also some pretty obvious issues with new center Cam Jurgens as he attempted to replace Jason Kelce.
There were snap issues as well as two failed tush-push plays. He is trying to replace an all-time great, and there's no shortage of work left to do.
