Watch: Mark Vientos walk-off home run lifts Mets to eighth straight win

The New York Mets are the hottest team in baseball, and they won their eighth game in a row on Friday night in dramatic fashion.

Third baseman Mark Vientos clubbed a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Mets to a 6-4 win and send the Citi Field crowd into an absolute frenzy as the team continues its push toward a wild-card spot in the National League.

Have a look.

That is the second home run of the game for Vientos and his 24th of the season. He went 3-for-4 in the win.

That win allowed the Mets to keep pace with the Atlanta Braves (who were also 3-1 winners on Friday) and keep them in a tie for the third wild-card spot in the National League. The Mets currently own the tiebreaker in that race.

This entire Mets season has been an incredible journey because it began with such a negative outlook — especially when compared to the massive expectations that existed prior to the 2023 campaign. After badly underachieving and selling off veterans at last year's deadline, and then having a relatively quiet offseason, this figured to be a retooling season and perhaps even another year where they would be selling at the trade deadline.

Instead, they find themselves in the middle of the postseason race and starting to play some of their best baseball at the absolute right time of the year.
