Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift appears to be a broadcast fixture during Kansas City Chiefs games for the foreseeable future.
While some have blasted the mega pop star for what they perceive as clout-chasing appearances, others have begun to embrace Swift-mania, including former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and “Monday Night Football” commentator Troy Aikman.
During an appearance on the “Sports Media with Richard Deitsch” podcast, Aikman admitted that he’d even welcome Swift into the broadcast booth if she’s game. The Chiefs have two “MNF” games this season — Oct. 7 against the New Orleans Saints and Nov. 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Are you kidding me? We’ll escort her up,” Aikman stated. “There’s no doubt that if we could get her on ‘Monday Night Football’ in the booth, we would interview her, and we’d have a place for her to sit, and she could take as long as she wanted. I say that now; my producer may feel otherwise.”
Swift has come under fire from a lot of NFL fans for the constant attention she commands whenever she attends a game.
Television crews are certainly aware of Swift’s celebrity status, which is why the camera often cuts to her five or more times during games, and almost certainly every time her boyfriend Travis Kelce makes any sort of big play.
But while some are focused on spinning Swift’s presence around the league as negative, Aikman likes to look at it from the perspective of the new audience she’s exposing the NFL to.
“I think that the fact that a generation of people got exposed to the NFL that, in all likelihood, wouldn’t have otherwise, I think is really positive,” Aikman added. “I think it’s fair to say the NFL liked it. I just wish we had more Chiefs games.”
