Five ways the New York Jets can improve on offense

The New York Jets came into the 2024-25 season with high expectations. The return of Aaron Rodgers, a revamped offensive line and one of the NFL's top defenses have Jets fans buzzing for the new season.

The excitement was slightly dampened with a loss in Week 1. While Rodgers threw for 167 yards and a touchdown, the Jets offense struggled to get out of first gear.

So, how can the Jets improve their offense?

1. Let Rodgers throw

As much of an improvement as Rodgers is for the Jets, there are still question marks surrounding the quarterback. Rodgers is 40 years old and coming off of a torn Achilles, so it makes sense that there would be question marks surrounding him.

Even with these question marks, Rodgers still looks comfortable throwing the football.

Rodgers gets the ball out quick and can still effectively get the ball downfield. With his arm talent and pocket presence, it makes sense that the Jets should want him throwing the ball as much as possible. Rodgers being able to effectively get the ball to his wide receivers will be huge for the Jets.

2. Be patient

Because of the Achilles injury, Rodgers' mobility is limited. His ability to scramble should improve throughout the course of the season, but it clearly is not there yet.

Scrambling is something Rodgers has been able to do effectively in the past, although it isn't what he's most known for. The Jets will have to be patient with the veteran signal-caller, as he will be primarily a pocket passer until his mobility comes back.

3. Share the ball

It's no secret that WR Garrett Wilson and RB Breece Hall are going to be the two biggest targets for the Jets on offense. While Wilson and Hall should be huge factors, it's important for the Jets to have more than two offensive weapons.

Receiver Mike Williams is coming off a torn ACL, but figures to be a big piece of the offense once he's 100%. Calling simple plays like screens and short passes early in games can help widen the offense.

4. Win in the trenches

The offensive line was supposed to be an improvement for the Jets this season. The improved line should help Hall run the ball more effectively.

The Jets need to win the battle at the line of scrimmage, both offensively and defensively. This will improve the run defense and improve the run game. It will also help Hall be more effective in the pass-catching game.

5. Consistency is key

This comes down to play calling. Hall was mostly ineffective in Week 1, yet the Jets kept trying to establish their run game. If the team realizes what they're doing well, they'll be able to move the ball with more consistency. Consistent play calling will lead to more scoring.

The Jets will head to Nashville in Week 2 to take on the Tennessee Titans. If the offense makes some changes, the Jets should be able to bounce back and get in the win column for the first time this season.
