Michigan must make QB change despite Week 3 win

No. 17 Michigan is 2-1 and held off Arkansas State 28-18 on Saturday.

But the Wolverines are in desperate need of a new quarterback after starter Davis Warren's abysmal performances through three weeks.

The 6-foot-2 senior threw three interceptions Saturday against the Red Wolves, bringing his season total to six.

Every single one of Warren's passes were caught Saturday. He accrued 122 yards on 11 completions. The other three passes were picked.

It also marked the first time Warren topped a 70 percent completion percentage this season.

Head coach Sherrone Moore will need to fully turn to junior dual-threat Alex Orji, who threw Michigan's only passing touchdown after replacing Warren midgame.

Warren, 22, who conquered Leukemia in high school, sat behind previous starter J.J. McCarthy for two years.

If Michigan wants to stay relevant in the College Football Playoff conversation — especially after getting embarrassed by Texas at home in Week 2 — it's going to need creative, dynamic quarterback play to keep up with top contenders.

If the unsettling trend with Warren continues or Orji can't step up, then Michigan fans may want to skip watching the Ohio State game this year and re-watch the national championship game.
