Arne Slot was very disappointed in his team’s loss at home at their fourth Gameweek. Liverpool has been unbeaten and in fine form, before the international break. However his team came back to face Nottingham Forest, and they suddenly lost the synergy. Liverpool had beaten Manchester United, Brentford, and Ipswich prior to the break. And on Saturday they lost 1nil to Forest at Anfield.

It was a very disappointing loss for the hosts as it has been known that the Reds have an exceptional record at Anfield against any team. And historically it has been 1969 since Forest beat them there. Arne Slot spoke on his disapproval of his team’s performance, clamoring for a better response, especially with the other tricky fixtures coming ahead.

Arne Slot on the Big Setback

The Dutchman expressed his disappointment with his team’s poor display. He spoke about how his team wasn’t good enough and how they lacked full control of the game. The Reds failed to create a lot of chances playing against Forest who set up a low block against the Reds. In the 70th minute, they got a counter that led to Odoi’s goal.

Slot spoke about how poor the individual display was and he finally added he expects better from them. He said: “It is always difficult to say this, but I don’t think it had anything to do with it. Players came back strong and I saw today also a team that wanted to fight until the end.”

The Liverpool coach continued saying: “It had nothing to do with energy, in my opinion, but we simply had the ball a lot and we had to create from ball possession. If you look at the goals we have scored until now, we also scored quite a few from transition moments, from winning the ball back and then going to transition.”

He finally added: “But the other team played over our press a lot with a lot of long balls, so like I said, we got the ball mostly in our last line. Then it wasn’t good enough today because also too many individual performances in ball possession were not of the standards that I am used to from these players.”

Arne Slot on his Opponents

The Dutchman spoke about how better his team should have done, knowing they were facing a mid-table team. He also praised how organized and structured his opponents were. And he said: “Not to the process, but it is a big setback. If you lose a home game it’s always a setback, especially if you face a team… we never know, maybe they will go all the way to fight for Champions League tickets, but normally this team does not end up in the top 10, so if you lose a game against them that’s a big disappointment. Although, they were organized and structured really well today.”

What’s Ahead for Liverpool

Liverpool will continue their league campaign as Bournemouth will visit them at home. Arne Slot will want a solid response from his team over the league game. Prior to the game on Tuesday, the Reds will travel to Milan to play a very tricky Champions League fixture against AC Milan. Liverpool will need a solid win on Tuesday to raise the team’s confidence as they proceed in this season’s football campaign.
