Watch: Ederson provides game-winning assist for Manchester City

Manchester City beat Brentford 2-1 on Saturday thanks to an assist from goalkeeper Ederson for the game-winning goal.

With the ball in his own penalty box, Ederson spotted striker Erling Haaland making a run in behind the Brentford high line. Haaland boxed out his defender and put the ball in the net with only three touches.

The Brazilian shot-stopper is no stranger to goal contributions. Since joining City in 2017, Ederson has four Premier League assists, with Haaland on the receiving end of two.

The four-time Premier League champion continues to climb the leaderboard of goalkeeper assists. He now only trails Paul Robinson for the most in Premier League history, with Ederson playing 120 fewer games.

The goalkeeper’s ball-playing ability is what makes City’s attack unstoppable and unpredictable. Duality is Ederson’s greatest asset; he can play in tight spaces like a midfielder or launch a ball over the top if opponents get too greedy.

City manager Pep Guardiola believes the goalkeeper is the most important position on the pitch, calling Ederson one of the club’s best signings.

Their success together backs that statement. All four of Guardiola’s Premier League titles have come with Ederson between the sticks. In his league career, the Brazilian has three Golden Gloves and a career shutout percentage of 44%, ranked third all-time.

The win over Brentford keeps City on top of the table with 12 points and a plus-eight goal difference.
