Arch Manning's dominant showing should make Texas confident regardless of who plays QB

Injuries are never the preferred way to see a player rise, but sometimes they create unexpected opportunities. Texas quarterback Arch Manning is set to seize his moment as the Longhorns head into Week 4 against Louisiana-Monroe if he gets the call to start at QB.

When Quinn Ewers exited the Longhorns' dominant 56-7 victory against UTSA with an abdominal strain, Manning stepped up and lit up the field. The redshirt freshman didn’t just fill in—he dazzled.

Manning racked up 223 yards and four touchdowns through the air, plus a jaw-dropping 67-yard touchdown run that showcased his blend of size, arm strength and athleticism. It was a performance that had college football buzzing about his future on the field.

Ewers’ injury isn’t severe, but it might be enough to keep him out of the game against the Warhawks. With his pattern of injuries every season since he joined Texas, there’s been a lot of debate about how far he can lead the Longhorns. The early returns from Manning should have the Texas faithful feeling confident regardless of who is playing quarterback.

For now, Manning is set to take first-team reps, and it seems Texas fans are in for a treat if he's under center in Week 4. Against Louisiana-Monroe, the Longhorns are heavily favored, so the spotlight will shine brightly on Manning and his chemistry with his offensive playmakers.

The 19-year-old passer is already showing signs of greatness, particularly in his budding connection with freshman receiver Ryan Wingo that was highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown pass against UTSA.

With Manning in the driver’s seat, the Texas offense is not slowing down. Ewers is still the starter when he’s back to full health, but Manning’s impressive performances could make that return a bit more complicated.

In the meantime, Manning will aim to transition from his backup role to showcase starter confidence on the field as the Longhorns strive to maintain their winning streak.
