Missouri QB sets lofty expectations for team as Week 4 approaches

The No. 7 Missouri Tigers are 3-0, marking the first time the program has gone undefeated after three weeks in back-to-back years since the 2014-15 seasons.

After its hot start in 2024, the team — ranked in the AP preseason top 10 — finds itself in the upper echelon of the rankings for the first time since 2013.

But those kinds of achievements are not enough for quarterback Brady Cook, who has his sights set at even loftier goals for his teammates and the program.

"Anything outside of winning every single game is going to be a failure for us," Cook told Mad Dog Sports Radio on Tuesday.

"From 2022 to 2023 compared to 2023 to 2024, you know, our standards and expectations and goals are a lot higher," Cook said. "That's our goal, to win each week and make sure we don't end it with an L on our schedule."

Missouri went a meager 6-7 in 2022, Cook's sophomore season, but vastly improved to 11-2 in 2023 and won the Cotton Bowl over Ohio State. The program finished the year ranked No. 8, the first time it finished a season in the AP top 25 since 2014.

This year, the team sits squarely in the middle of a stacked SEC featuring at least six teams that could vie for spots in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.

Currently, Missouri holds the longest win streak in college football, according to Rivals. It survived an upset bid from No. 21 Boston College in Week 3, outlasting the Eagles, 27-21.

The Tigers host Vanderbilt in its SEC opener on Saturday, looking to go 4-0 in back-to-back years for the first time since the 2009-10 seasons.
