The Toronto Blue Jays (72-80) have been one of the most disappointing teams in Major League Baseball this season. They enter Thursday in last place in the American League East.
While shortstop Bo Bichette is far from the only one to blame for the team's lack of success in 2024, his injury-riddled campaign is a significant reason why the Blue Jays will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
The two-time All-Star is having his worst season since his debut in 2019, and with 10 games left in the schedule, his year mercifully ended on Thursday.

Bichette came into 2024 fresh off his second All-Star selection in 2023.
After leading the AL in hits in 2021 and 2022, the son of former Colorado Rockies All-Star outfielder Dante Bichette missed 27 games last year. The 26-year-old finished 2023 with 20 home runs, 75 RBI and his best batting average (.306) since his 46-game rookie year.
The younger Bichette was limited to 81 contests in 2024, however.
He returned to action on Wednesday following an eight-week absence due to a calf injury, going 2-for-5 with an RBI in a 13-8 loss vs. the Texas Rangers. It was Bichette's first contest since July 19.
He was supposed to be back in Toronto's lineup on Wednesday, but according to an Associated Press and ESPN report, the 2016 draft pick broke his finger when taking ground balls before the game.
While on the field this year, Bichette struggled mightily at the plate.
He finished the season with a career-low .225 batting average and just four homers and 31 RBI.
