Malik Willis was a castoff. The Tennessee Titans traded him to the Green Bay Packers for a seventh-round draft pick just two seasons after selecting him in the third round.
He was supposed to be a bust, but he just walked back into Tennessee and led the Packers to a dominant 30-14 win — and he looked great doing it
This is still Jordan Love's team and Love will be the starting quarterback when he's back and ready to play (potentially as soon as next weekend), but Willis has revitalized his career in Green Bay.
And the way he's done it? Well, it's been nothing short of phenomenal. He got his first start for the Packers last weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, a mere 20 days after the team had traded for him. He came into Green Bay knowing he was backing up Love, but was cast into the starting role on a Super Bowl hopeful after just Week 1.
The fact that he's played well, let alone led the Packers to a 2-0 record in his starts, is nothing short of miraculous.
"I just cannot articulate the job that he's done in this short period of time," LaFleur told the media after the win over the Titans, according to NFL.com. "People can't fathom it. I promise you, you guys don't get it. I know you think you got it, but you don't get it. What he's been able to do, I've never seen something like this."
Willis was effective with both his arm and his legs against the Titans. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 73 yards and a score.
Perhaps most importantly, he's taken care of the football in both games. He hasn't yet turned it over and he's done a masterful job of orchestrating LaFleur's offense.
Willis hasn't put up MVP numbers, but he's certainly been Green Bay's MVP over the past two weeks.
It's truly an incredible turnaround.
