MLB playoffs may be one member short of its very own 'Jackson 5'

With their incredible September run, the Detroit Tigers (83-74) have vaulted themselves into the playoff picture, too, as they enter Wednesday tied with the Kansas City Royals (83-74) for the second AL wild-card spot.

Therefore, MLB could be one short of its very own "Jackson 5" this October if Detroit qualifies. The Tigers called up starting pitching prospect Jackson Jobe on Tuesday, though the 2021 third-overall pick will be joining the team's bullpen.

Both Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio and Padres outfielder Jackson Merrill debuted with their respective clubs on Opening Day and have had strong first campaigns.

The former has been especially hot in the second half, upping his slash line to .275/.329/.469 while joining the 20-20 club with 21 home runs and 21 stolen bases across 510 at-bats for the season as a whole. Merrill, for his part, is likely Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes' primary competition for the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

San Diego's young outfielder was named an All-Star in July and enters the final stretch of regular-season contests with 24 home runs, 89 RBI and 16 steals, as well as a .292/.325/.501 triple slash in 541 at-bats.

After beginning the season raking in Triple-A, Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday was promoted to the majors in early April, but struggled mightily in his first cup of coffee at the big league level. Holliday was demoted later that month after starting out 2-for-34 with five runs scored, one RBI, two walks and 18 strikeouts across his first 10 games with Baltimore.

Holliday was called back up to the Orioles on July 31 and hit a grand slam in his first game after returning to the club.

Barring a surprise promotion of another "Jackson" prospect to a playoff team or the Tigers making the postseason, the league will fall just one member short of matching the famous Jackson 5 music group, led by the late "King of Pop," Michael Jackson.
