Golfer Tony Finau isn't about to let the Americans turn in another dud on a big stage.
At the 2024 Presidents Cup on Thursday, Finau drilled a 30-foot birdie from the rough after his partner, Xander Schauffele, nearly chipped in from the 14th green.

Per NBC Sports' live blog, Australian Jason Day — who's partnered with South Korean Ben An — tied the hole with a seven-foot putt, but the Americans maintained their advantage.
The U.S. has a 12-1-1 record at the Presidents Cup since it began in 1994. However, it's coming off a disappointing loss to the Europeans at the 2023 Ryder Cup. If the Americans lose at Royal Montreal, they will be without a professional cup for the first time since 1998.
"You have to earn it," Finau recently told the Associated Press (h/t: ESPN). "It doesn't matter how good our record is in the Presidents Cup. At some point, the [Internationals are] going to start winning some President Cups. It's going to happen. We're not going to play this many, and I ... obviously want the Americans to win the next 50. It's not going to happen. They're going to start [winning]. We don't want that team to be against us."
If Finau keeps making key shots, he and the Americans should avoid an upset. According to Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, they lead all five matches on the first day of the four-day event.
