Watch: Rutgers escapes as Washington misses last-second, game-tying FG

College football's Friday night slate has delivered dramatic action week in and week out this year.

Shortly after No. 7 Miami survived a controversial Hail Mary and upset bid by Virginia Tech, Rutgers was hoping to escape with a win at home against Washington.

The Scarlet Knights led handily for most of the game, taking a 14-3 lead to halftime and holding onto a 21-10 margin late in the fourth quarter.

But the Huskies attempted to make a surging comeback with just minutes to play, scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion to get within a field goal.

Washington's defense held Rutgers to a three-and-out with just 35 seconds remaining in regulation. Then its offense took six plays to get to the opposing 38-yard line, setting up a crucial kick.

Unfortunately, Huskies kicker Grady Gross missed the 55-yard attempt that would've sent the game to overtime.

Rutgers held on for the 21-18 win and now moves to 4-0 on the year, matching its best start through four games since the 2012 season.

Washington fell to 3-2 and now faces a tough hill to climb in the rest of its first season in the Big Ten Conference.
